This is wonderful, already digging it more than Vivadixie on the first listen

Unexpected opinion but cool. Definitely his most abrasive album.
Maria’s Little Elbows and Cruel Sun are two of his absolute best. Saint Mary, Painbirds and Sunshine aren’t far behind too.

Hm, I’d say Vivadixie is much more abrasive than this one - or at least that when it is abrasive it is much more so than this. This has a much lusher feel all around and excluding the opener the louder tracks aren’t quite as rough as those on Vivadixie. Maybe that one just needs to grow on me more but I def had a much more strongly positive experience with this one.

Linkous has his own world, lyrically and musically, so you'll probably appreciate all four albums even more as you digest all his output.
Definitely continue to 'It's a Wonderful Life' - that's his best and ups the lushness even further.
I tried Swirlies and downloaded four of the longer tunes - definitely like it, 4-4.5 potential. A bit of an 'Isn't Anything' vibe in there - and I know you're sick of me saying it...Sonic Youth. You need them. Even if it's more an academic thing and you don't warm to them so much, they just had such a massive influence on so much of the music you're digging right now.

From what I’ve heard of Linkous so far there’s definitely something special going on in his work, I do feel that I’ll grow to appreciate it more with time too.
I want to devote 2018 to really cracking down on a lot of the essential acts of the past that I’ve missed, I should definitely prioritize Sonic Youth along with that.

"I woke up in a horse's stomach one foggy morning
His eyes were crazy and he smashed into the cemetary gates"
So relatable.

Could see this one growing to a 4.5, I really like/love pretty much every song except for Cruel Sun.

There will come a time gigantic
Waves will crush the junk that I have saved
When the moon explodes or floats away
I'll lose the souvenirs I made...
Mark Linkous was just too pure for this world ;_;

Yeah it's a great verse. Usually I have to go to death metal for stuff like that.

"Sunshine" and "Maria's Little Elbows" could both be 5/5 songs - the former is just so beautiful and pure and the latter is a brilliant pop song.
"Pig" is another highlight and has emerged as my favorite opener between this, Vivadixie, and Wonderful. Song is an absolute blast and its contrast with "Painbirds" and "Saint Mary" is genius.
