the progression of the riffs is amazing

Yes. Like rasputin pointed out in a review he wrote, the title track is a perfect example of what makes this album excellent - a long sequence of riffs that deceptively go nowhere before leading into a final riff that is one of the heaviest death metal has ever produced. My favorite track is "Lies of the Cross", but truth is they all work together.
