lol it's like Evanescence with a male vocalist. How dare they stain the name of a Neurosis album.

lol i was wondering that too -- were they just painfully unaware that Neurosis had an album by that name? did they name their band as an homage? did they know and just not care?

Probably unaware but is it that hard to check google? I mean for all I know, Neurosis could've taken that title from a book or a line of poetry but still, that's actually cool. I hate bands who ignorantly use names that have been taken.

I feel completely different from this review and most of the comments, but seeing as you prefer Howard and albums like Daylight Dies over AOJB probably explains why. I definitely agree that Howard has a good voice and live performance as well, but he comes nowhere close to Jesse's emotion, power and lyrics. It wasn't as bad on TEOH but from Daylight Dies and onward his clean vocals just became whiny and he kept rehashed Jesse's lyrical themes (plus every song seemed to become about him being heartbroken some way or another).

It also doesn't help that every song on DD and the last one has the exact same structure. It may help reach a more mainstream audience but it becomes boring really quickly.

So I was pleasantly surprised to find Adam writing interesting and varied songs again and together with Jesse's voice and lyrics makes it better than anything post-AOJB for me. The point I agree with is that the album could've used some more up tempo songs/moments, but this doesn't bother me much.

yeah, Howard's lyrics got a little cliche after awhile -- but good lord did you listen to the stuff Jesse wrote for Empire Shall Fall? it was like some corny-ass self-help book put to genericore

Yeah he did get all conspiracy theory crazy on that one :p, but thank god he didn't take that with him to this album. He's still one of my favorite vocalists in metal though. Even though others might have technically 'better' vocals, the way he brings it makes the difference for me.

oh don't get me wrong, I love his performance on AOJB -- and that's definitely my favorite KsE album, hands down. I always thought Jesse was better on that single album than Howard's been on any others, I'm just not convinced that that period was the perfect storm for Jesse; as in, I've always kind of doubted he'd be able to replicate it.

This disc hasn't changed my mind as of now, but I'll probably give it at least one more shot.

very true but when done correctly it can still be good. it just takes a little thinking outside of the box, great riffs, personality, imo it should change up a good amount and never get stuck in a certain style or formula, and above all, it needs zazz

It doesn't suck, man. There are some really nice songs on the album. Worlds Apart, Willing, Where the spirit leads me Live in love etc.

Im sorry Jared but you need to clean your ears out! This album is amazing, I guarantee you when journalists talk about classic metal albums this will appear with Alive or Just Breathing (As Daylight Dies is a personal favourite) its just that good! Why is this website so negative towards albums when other sites and magazines give praise where praise is due? Strength in Numbers, Willing, Live in Love, Hope Remains and Fall from Grace kick so much ass!! There is a reason why bands such as As i lay dying, All that Remains, August Burns Red, Parkway Drive and Unearth have had albums produced by Adam D, he's a musical genius.

Curse.

I am a huge Killswitch apologist, and I love Jesse, so I will check this out. This review makes me wary though.

I wouldn't weigh too heavy on it, pretty much every other site I've read talks highly about this album.

it is, however, not a sputnik album.
