"The fact that the lyrics aren't comprehensible or accessible through listening to the music is not a flaw, it is a stylistic choice by the band."

Depends on perspective. For him, lyrics (and how they are delivered) may be a huge aspect of the music. Some people aren't always able to pull up the lyrics while listening to an album.

what are you even saying

you admit it yourself: "but , "well-written" does indeed include well-fleshed arguments"

why is there a need to include that whole "well-written =/= well-rated" spiel when nobody suggested anything like that. ever.

Because I recall someone saying that the arguments didn't justify giving this a 2

yeah i think you could just expand on why certain things are bad

"As odd as it may seem, that is exactly what listening to Jane Doe feels like to me, as throughout the album you are the target of Converge's musical aggression."

this is a good sentence and i agree, but a lot of people like the album for that, so maybe you could add that this sort of aggression is just not fun for you, and that it lends the album its banality--anger isnt a bad thing in music necessarily, but jacob bannon only knows how to get angry one way, and thats what he does over 12 tracks. i mean this isnt necessarily something i agree with but yeah.

and then, wrt the lyrics, say something aobut how the incomprehensibility, whether or not that be a conscious choice on the band's part, simply leads to a disconnect between you and the album, leading it to degenerate into the cliche "rah rah rah" thing everyone always talks about.

yeah maybe idk

The fact that the lyrics aren't comprehensible or accessible through listening to the music is not a flaw, it is a stylistic choice by the band.

Every aspect of music is a stylistic choice, and they can be flaws just like anything else. If someone unfamiliar with aggressive music hears this and despises it because they can't decipher the lyrics, then use that to criticise it, their point is as valid as anyone else's.

also yeah 123 just because esomething is a 'stylistic choice' (and of course just because other people like) doesnt mean its suddenly shielded from criticism

Well then maybe they just need to learn to accept this unconventional way of interpreting the lyrics, because that is what the band intended and it is well executed in that regard. Someone earlier said that the listener might not want to go through the trouble of looking up the lyrics themselves. Seriously?

Has anyone else noticed how sputnikmusic is becoming less and less about music?

I love it because of its passion, aggression, and incredible variety. I worked hard at liking this, and it really paid off. This is one of my favorite albums, and it means a shit ton to me.

The passion and aggression isn't what puts me off of this. I went into this expecting to like it because of all that. It's just nothing feels organized to me and feels like it's just one big mess.

"Thaw" has always been my favorite off of this, but there's something truly magical about "Phoenix In Flames".
