Didn't know the Poltergeist guys released a comeback album in 2016, huh
Just jammed some of their stuff yesterday. Depression sounds better than I remembered tbh
Behind My Mask might be a hidden tech-thrash gem, need to jam it more

Reading this review again, a lot of the stuff in it's kind of odd. Like, Time Must End is seriously one of the best tracks on here, Schmier's absence is nowhere near as much of a diminishing factor as it's stated here and the punkiness here is most certainly preferable to the way many other thrash bands attempt to do it. Really just seemed to be grasping for straws with that rating.

nah the production is pretty bad, the songwriting isn't that good for the most part, the vocals aren't as good as schmiers
it's a decent album but it's not as strong or menacing as the rest of their discography, probably as a result of the punkier tone and some slightly awkward segments
it's cool that you like it but I think my reasoning in the review is sound, even if you don't find some of those things to be negatives. such is the way of the world. need to give it a full re-listen again at some point, may like it more nowadays

"nah the production is pretty bad, the songwriting isn't that good for the most part, the vocals aren't as good as schmiers"
The songwriting isn't that good in comparison to what? This easily holds up with the best thrash metal albums of the period. Bad songwriting would be something like Sieges Even's Life Cycle or most Anthrax, not this album.

A lot of the tempo changes and transitions feel awkward, and there aren't always good hooks to open the songs - Time Must End is a big offender for example.
to be fair i like this album a lot more nowadays, so I probably would up this to a 3.5. might rewrite at some stage

idk man the vocals and the prod are the biggest departure but the songwriting still rules and they still have those signature destruction riffz

Cracked Brain/S.E.D/Rippin You Off Blind ...are total thrash pieces.
The entire LP is superb (except No Need To Justify that is average)
Underrated [5]
