Pale Companion would honestly be around the middle of my ranking for this, good track but it's one of those Stars Are Projectors-esque overworked epics where the idea of the song ends up being more impressive than the way they pull it off

Wooden Doors might be my GOAT black/folk metal song. That song is literally responsible for my band lol.

Ghost got me into black metal when I was like 13, turned in the lyrics as an example of contemp romantic poetry in a euro history module freshman year
Rep yr set

Okay you have exposed me; when I was 13 I bailed out on a bring-your-own-poetry assignment in English class and played Seize the Day by Avenged Sevenfold directly after someone else who'd had a similar idea had played Yesterday. Our teacher never missed an opportunity for sass but even then it was hilarious how much he was holding back confining his reaction to "...this is rather cliched"
Took me about a yr to hit my redemption arc and it's been a long rest of my life since (Agalloch would probs have made my top 10 a few years later, but there was still vestigial energy from that class then - you decide how that reflects on them)

Remember Seize the Day was a song that played on the Fallen Footwear site back in the day when i was looking at sk8erboi shoes
Feel like i should give this album another og
Altho i really appreciated a lot of the stuff going on i also couldnt help but feel it was a tad bit overrated

I read in a recent interview that when John belted out the "I saw the Nightfall!" it was a bit of a last minute idea in the studio and he didn't feel particularly great about it, but he looked over at Don and Don gave him the nod of approval so they went with it, and in retrospect John wished he would have changed it.
