I think the way Damon made the album is part of the statement he's making about America. This album is definitely great; I'd rather hear these tracks with rap overlay, more vocals and some serious live percussion, though. "Phoner to Arizona" and "Amarillo" make me jizz. Good review! You somehow captured its essence very objectively, but from multiple angles.
