I had to give Fas a few listens for me not to hate the slow parts between songs. The reprieve is actually quite nice.

I was watching a guy cover Abscission on guitar and it was definitely interesting watching the finger positioning and such. Kind of makes you wonder how the guitarist came up with such strange and dissonant sounding riffs. Some of the riffs seem painful to play as far as finger position.

I really like that sort of ''scratching'' sound they do in that track (Abscission) the part where the song quiets down and it's just the riff left it's like a part is played and then he takes his fingers and quickly goes back and forth so it sounds super twisted. It's almost like one riff plays and then there's a response with the other little quick riff he does right after.
Again, very creative playing. I don't know if I'd call it technical but it's definitely interesting and imaginative. I think it's a case where intent makes a big difference in the end sound.

I saw the same version (probably) and decided to learn how to play that song. the riffs are so tasty.

'I had to give Fas a few listens for me not to hate the slow parts between songs.'
That makes the album for me, the contrasting dynamic between the heavy & quieter passages is so well done, way more interesting than Synarchy (for example) which simply goes ballistic for almost the entire run-time.

demon knows. it's all about the dynamics going from 1st to 5th gear instantaneously and then back. it's what makes the intense parts even more intense, because they have really great counterpoints.
|
| |
Agreed. That dynamic is so underused in metal.
I know some musicians consider atmospheric interludes to be weak, but imo they improve the actual songs.
OK there a few examples where you go 'ARG get to the actual song' after 3 minutes of droning white noise, but that's just bad execution.

yeah, few albums where it's full gear from start to finish manage to maintain that energy. it actually loses power after a while of pure pummeling. you could write the hardest riff beknownst'th to man but if the preceding set of five riffs are all blast then that would get lost or at least not be as effectual as it could be. give us a breather ffs.

3 minutes of droning white noise might be slightly overdoing it agreed.
