Review Summary: Sins' light-hearted brother. I was trying to decide if this deserved a 4.5 or a 5... I chose a 5 in the end.
Irreversible is pretty unknown, well, actually, they're almost completely unknown. This is a sad fact, for they are extraordinary. There are so many bands out there, such as Cannibal Corpse and Bring Me the Horizon, that receive tons of critical acclaim, but really are just the same ideas rehashed into a new album. This depresses me. I find it to be even more saddening when a rare gem like Irreversible goes unnoticed.
They started off by releasing a small EP entitled,"Age" which contained 5 tracks. All of the songs on the EP were sort of experimental/post-metal songs, which were quite good for a band's first release. Then came Sins, which was an incredible album. It runs along the veins of Isis in sound, with heavy riffs and atmospheric sequences. The vocals on "Sins" were mostly growls and screams, save for Synaesthesia, the ending track. The whole album gave off a completely dark feel, in fact, it's almost painful to listen to. The songs themselves also have a darker, doomsday sort of vibe to them, especially with titles such as," The Blackness that Spread." and "Liberation Through Hearing In the Intermediate State." After the record closes with the clean guitar tones and beautiful vocals of the relaxing, and refreshing, "Synaesthesia" one can begin to suspect the direction the band is headed in... They are headed in the direction of a cleaner, more refined style.
So, they then released Lights, their best album yet
This record is a great deal lighter (this is a lame pun, I know) than Sins. Despite this fact, it still retains Irreversible's heavy style.
"Light" has a total of 12 songs, all of which have quite varied lengths. The shortest song comes in at one minute and twenty seconds while the longest is around sixteen minutes and ten seconds. Each song contains a great deal of experimentation, and each song is also heavily layered, or sparse. The standouts on this album are "Boundary Dissolution," "Epiphanies," "Time Compressing," and "Noosphere Rising." Really though, every song on this album is extraordinary, those are just the most notable tracks.
What I enjoy most about this album is the extremely flexible sound that Irreversible manages to pull of. Of course, since Sins was such a dark and black metal-esque album, it would be assumed that this album would remain the same. However, Irreversible proves that they don't stick to simply one sound. This album spans so many genres, including: Post-rock, Post-metal, Ambient, Black-Metal, Alternative, and even Math-rock to some extent. If you want an album that encompasses every single one of these genres, get this one. It's incredible. Honestly, it is extremely rare to find a band like Irreversible in this day and age. Most bands are somewhat similar to some other band in a similar genre. However, instead of following the patterns of so many bands out there, Irreversible steps out of the boundaries of the norm and create an album that is extremely creative, inventive, and original. I can happily say that this album sounds unlike anything else out there. Sure, it does have elements of Post-metal and Black-metal in it, but they are not overpoweringly present or obvious.
Now, why did I give this a five? It is because there is not really a single thing I can find wrong with this album. It is perfect in every way. It has amazing variety, not one song feels like a filler, and it has a great feel to it. It is performed extremely well, and goes off without a single hitch. All in all, it is just perfect. All the beats hit at the right times, the guitars are used in perfect unison with the rest of the song, yet maintain their own life without feeling repetative or boring. This is basically like Explosions in the Sky mixed with Isis. Not to mention the drum work reminds me of the drum work of Rosetta. Honestly, this is just a well-rounded and amazing release. I don't know how Irreversible will top this, but I can't wait to see what they do next. You may be asking yourself," How could this get any better?" well, I'll tell you this, Irreversible offers this album for free off of their myspace. Just type the band's name into Bandcamp.com. Or google "Irreversible Band" to find their myspace, and they have a link to go download this album. You won't regret it, this is a masterpiece.

Yeah, haha, I figured it needed work. I fixed up most typos I saw, but left it loose on the grammatical end. I'll fix it up. I just had to leave before I had a chance to get the grammar totally fixed up. I might just take out the individual song reviews and throw in the highlights, that'll make it shorter.

@Photon, yeah, usually I don't see too many post-metal reviews come up, and since it's one of my favorite genres, I wanted to write a review for a post-metal band. I saw Irreversible didn't have any reviews yet, so I wrote one.

Some of your descriptions of the band are excellent, but the unnecessary exposition needs to go. You'd be better off starting on the fifth paragraph.

Haha, yeah, this still needs editing huh? I feel like the whole album history deal could've gone, but I kept it in anyway because I consider this like a light-hearted clone of Sins. So I wanted to say what Sins was. I give out 5's to the albums I listen to most, this happened to be one of those. You guys are right though, it probably isn't quite a 5, more like a 4 or something. Haha, it's my second review, so don't expect it to be top-notch or anything.

Yeah, definitely. A heavier version of EITS, for sure. But, some of the guitar and drum work reminds me of EITS. It's great stuff. I do think I was getting into my review too much and over rated it, I'd still give it a 4 though lol.

I actually joined this website because someone else actually LOVES this album and I wanted to say props to the reviewer!
This album is a "grower" - meaning it takes more than a few spins to "hear" all the beautiful music. When I get time I will rate all my music (600 cds) and you will notice that this one is a rare 5/5. Can't wait to to see what these guys do next!

They broke up man. It sucks.
One of the guys in the band has a son now, so he left to take care of him... The whole band disbanded, and now they've reformed under the guise of Isness... Which is an electronic band. I haven't listened to any of their stuff yet, since they haven't posted any of their music yet.
