It's definitely closer than most bands of the genre but I still wouldn't give it that label.

Can't stand the singer. Myles Kennedy's voice irratates the hell outta me, and the cd is just too long and drags on. Only redeeming songs for me were, Isolation and Ghost of Days Gone By, the rest jus seemed like filler.

Having a damn hard time getting into this album...I hear a lot of things I like but this just doesn't seem as cohesive as Blackbird...that being said I'm only on my third listen...maybe with time it will get better

with Alter Bridge, Scott Stapp is proven to be the only reason why Creed ever sucked. this band rules

After revisiting this for the first time in a while, this is still holding up really well. I find myself appreciating the tracks I thought were weaker a lot more now.
And the darker atmosphere is something I really hope they keep/expand upon on their next album.

first 7 tracks are fantastic

Have only heard Blackbird from these guys so far.
|

Check this one out, it's quite a bit heavier

Interesting.
Heavier like Tremonti's solo album? Or are they even that comparable?
|
| |
Yeah, they're pretty similar actually. I definitely like this better than All I Was though.

Tremonti's solo album is more "metal" in terms of the riffs, but this has a consistently darker tone to it so I'd give this the edge in terms of heaviness (and quality). Guitars are tuned lower than Blackbird and the lyrics aren't as uplifting in most of the songs since the album's loose theme is questioning faith. I love the direction they took with this album even though Blackbird will always be my favorite.
Definitely worth checking out if you dig Blackbird and Tremonti's solo album.

Cool, thanks for the info ties, Lloyd.
I really liked Creed when I was younger. At one time or another, I owned their first 3 albums (now I only have the debut). Looking back on them and thinking of what I have heard of Blackbird now, the only things really comparable to me from a musical standpoint (ignoring the band members) are the vocals. Though, Miles is definitely better than Stapp.
Plus, Tremonti can shred so hard.

I know Tremonti can shred. And he writes some good riffs. But godDAMN is his guitar tone awful. Like squealing cats scratching chalkboards with their nails.

Also:

@SitarHero I know but I still enjoy his playing.

The bonus tracks are so damn good. They could have replaced some of the tracks on the album here, seriously. That solo in "Home" for example is too damn awesome.
My favorite tracks are:
Slip To The Void
Isolation
Make It Right
I Know It Hurts
Coeur D'Alene
Words Darker Than Their Wings
Every bonus track

I must be the only one here who doesn't like Still Remains and loves Make It Right. The song kicks ass.
