Even though Fury pissed all over this, i really do have a thing for it... i think it was hearing Dez in a different shade to his previous band, i remember buying this in 2003 and being stoked which explains my rating... few terrible tracks but the others more than make up for it... aaand it's the only one with their original guitarist.
Good review though.

Thanks, though I do think the guitarist change was more than welcome. Spreitzer is a far more versatile guitarist than Pitts was.

Be it that this was his debut, that guy may have developed along with pretty much like the others have really... guess we'll never know but i am happy about Spreitzer.

Look at it this way: even though Spreitzer is older (and thus is/was probably more experienced), Fury was also his first endeavor with DevilDriver, but unlike Pitts, he managed to make an impact right away

This reminds me to re-listen to TFOOMH. Such a good album, Grinfucked having a fucking evil opening riff.

"Grinfucked" rules, but the best openings imo belong to "End of the Line" and "Sin & Sacrifice" (seriously, the latter is just epic)

Both are good but doesn't beat Grinfucked, no way.

hehe, think I'm still gonna go with "Sin & Sacrifice" (though "Grinfucked" is in the top 3 too)

haha you're right, he sure did.

I remember hearing this and hating it. I still do actually, BUT your review made me go and check out some of their newer stuff and I have to say I might actually settle in and give them a listen again. Any album to pick up in particular?

The Fury Of Our Maker's Hand is their darkest and heaviest while The Last Kind Words has the best songwriting and probably the best musicianship. Judge based on that, as to me they're basically equal.

I'll grab both of those then. Depending on my mood either sound like a good place to start.
Thanks.

Fury is their best record by far, they have yet to top it. End of the Line has one of the most beautiful guitar intros I've ever heard, and then it just descends into that crushing riff.

Good review. I still like the album alot but its not my favorite.

Groovy album. It does resemble Coal Chamber though. Some songs on here are impossible not to tap your foot to.
|
| |
I Could Care Less is the standout track.

This album is enjoyable if you don't think about it at all. It's just mindless stuff I listen to at the gym, I don't think it's as negative as most people think it is. Then again, their release after this is legitimately awesome.
