This is In Flames's worst I think. I can barely sit through the whole thing. I'll elaborate later so I don't seem like a troll.

They're earlier stuff is way harder to get into than they're newer albums. You ain't dum!
Nah, Whoracle and Colony were love at first sight for me. TJR I agree though.
but they do it well and with grace.
I don't know about that, it's gotten to the point where they're barely even metal anymore, just pop with screaming and distorted guitars. In the past four albums, I don't know how many songs Friden has wrecked for me... definitely in double digits. He sucks. They can be quite good at times (Crawl Through Knives, Quiet Place, System on this one), but they feel way too clunky way too often nowadays.
I'm not sour, I'm pretty sweet. You just haven't seen my chocolate side yet.

You think so? I kind of hated their old stuff at first. Then again, I used to basically hate death metal.

they're barely even metal anymore, just pop with screaming and distorted guitars. if we would be measuring whether In Flames' newer or older records were more metal, then this would have a point, but as it stands, going less metal doesn't = worse quality. Again, as for liking this record, everyone are entitled to their opinion, but just because a band takes a poppier route than the one they had before doesn't make the new one bad by default

In this case, it does. Friden was a much, much better vocalist when doing the old stuff. His screams are really grating, and his clean are usually crappy, sometimes downright horrible, and every so often they're okay. Since he's the voice of the band, and had to tailor his once-good vocal style to the pop metal In Flames became, it's relevant in the quality discussion IMO.
Is anyone really going to argue that Friden's better now than he was then?

It's about equal in the end. This is more consistent, Clarity's all over the place.

Is anyone really going to argue that Friden's better now than he was then? In the context of this album, yes, in fact, I'm going to argue that this is his brightest moment as a vocalist, because his growling vocals weren't very powerful and on RtR he has some really good singing parts to compliment his new, at this point solid raspy style.

clarity is better and TJR is the best

I love The Jester Race. Really, it's one of the albums that got me into metal and it's probably in my top 5 of all time. But Anders's vocals on it are not good. He's not bad enough to ruin the album or anything, but his hoarse growls are incredibly bland and monotonous. The vocals here at least show some variation, and I actually think his high scream sounds great and have more character than his old death growls.
I also dont see how TJR is somehow more metal than this, whatever that means. Take away the distortion and death growls and TJR is basically just a bunch of Swedish folk melodies. Everything here is certainly heavier, even if it's nowhere near as interesting.

Colony had the best vocals. If you disagree then you are deaf.

I never really liked the TJR vocals. They're lacking in power and they're a bit monotonous for my taste.

I guess they do fit the music, but I still prefer them in Colony overall.

I actually like Friden's vocals regardless of the album. I am a long time In Flames fan and I used to worship them so I am blinded by my fanboyness but I personally think Whoracle is their worst.
IMO:
Reroute To Remain
Come Clarity
Colony
Soundtrack To Your Escape
