This is a fucking 5. I might be biased since they're my favorite band.

It's absolutely a hard 5. Best Swans for me so far.

The thing is that Soundtracks for the Blind is on a whole different level for me. So should I really 5 both of them? idk

The Great Annihiliator has been growing a lot more on me nowadays.

This just has the perfect mix of early and later Swans

I've only jammed Great Annihilator once. I thought it was pretty good but nowhere near their best work. I'm going through their studio albums chronologically at the moment, though, so I'll be listening to it again in the near future... Maybe my view will change.

In My Garden always creeps me out so much, especially with headphones.

In My Garden is unreal... But I think my favourite softer track on here is Blackmail. It's such a serene and beautiful moment in an otherwise very dissonant album.

I probably like it more than any Swans except this.

So what's everyone's interpretation of this album? I've always seen it as the sound of people losing themselves in their religion and neglecting everyone around you. Probably why I relate to it so much cause I've seen people do this :/

yup, that being a common flaw of religion either due to misconstruing of the message by the messenger, or the misreading of the message by the devote

Haha well agreed on that. No denying it's a great thing for many people, but as I said, some people lose themselves which I what this album accomplishes so way. The way Gira makes everything sound all cult like and robotic and sometimes creepy.

I always saw this as a concept album about a religious cult run by paedophiles. No idea why, just get that feeling when hearing some of the lyrics. Also the actual Children of God cult was filled with sex criminals if I remember correctly.
