I started backwards in his discog and this still stands out at the most replayable

It's the most undemanding and uniform in sound so I can see it's easily his best background listen - not a criticism as such, a lot of great folk artists are missing just such an album

jamming folk as background music isn't my cup of tea lol

oh it is for me, big time
half the stuff I class as chillout music is folk or alt country etc

This album has the most unique atmosphere - really puts me in a trance

I wish I'd listened to this in my early 20s like Either/Or, Self titled and XO because now it just doesn't have the same nostalgic atmospheric things the others have developed over all the years

I feel that. Honestly this carries a massive nostalgic feeling for me, more-so than any other Elliott despite the fact that it was my last listen of his main LPs. Just it's sound I guess.

sorry for being a similar age to the artist when he released this material and sorry for catching him live at the time ;P

you saw elliott live? ah man... was he good?

Album Rating: 3.5
he was really good but he didn't play last, Sebadoh did and were...not amazing. We'd gone to catch Elliott (and Quasi too I guess)
this was the gig, 1999

Sebadoh is one of those bands I've tried too often to get into with no reward. Cool gig though

he's one of those artists I'm so pleased I caught at the time, he definitely had this magnetism live, everyone was quiet and hanging on everything he was doing - obviously I never realised I'd not see him live again

This album gets so, so dark - I'm honestly in awe of it. Parts of it remind me more of something like Giles Corey than most of the other modern songwriters that take cues from Elliott. Title track and Last Call...
