Maybe it's the nu-metal kid inside me, but I'm not hating 'Chasing the Rapture' (which both comments and the review seem to find pretty crappy/uninspired). Could be worse IMO. It sucks the stream seems to cut out of it halfway through for me... I don't care about Facebook so I did the stupid unlocking to hear more, but I'm not going to annoy whoever actually receives my tweets so I'm not doing that.

Either way, nice review. I'll definately give this a listen when it's out. I liked 10 Years previous stuff.

On a random aside, your indictment of Howard Benson forgot to mention that he produced (/overproduced into oblivion) Saosin's
first full-length, haha.

fti, tell me what you rated their other albums. If you haven't heard them, listen to 'The Autumn Effect'.

ThePalestMexican, it's more than worth a listen if you liked their other stuff. 'Chasing the Rapture' is one of the average songs, that's for certain.

Thanks ttb. I'd count 4 songs here as moderately nu-metal sounding & 'Shoot It Out' is the best of them. It's sort of catchy, no matter which way you look at it. I would recommend that you listen to 'Division' first though.

Excellent gyro.

Thanks Dreacon. If you are a nu-metal fan, it will be interesting to see what you think of the album full stop... because it's not all like that either.

Brah, I did not forgot that mate. I left it out intentionally. 2 reasons; (a) I only noted the latest albums by a particular band, and (b) I really liked that album!

Josh, I wouldn't call 'Shoot It Out' radio-rock at all. If that's radio-rock, you may think some of the other stuff on here is pop!

Well it's catchy, yeah, just sounded pretty juvenile for them. I'm sure there's some good stuff on here, though.

"juvenile"? Yeah, I know what you mean. I guess when I used "dated" and all those other words, that is sort of what I meant. Lead singles can be used to seek attention sometimes & I think that's what 'Shoot It Out' does (or at least tries to do).

Yeah, fair enough. It's difficult for me to say since Aussie radio hardly plays rock full stop.

Oh & if you think 'Shoot It Out' is gonna get played on radio, wait until you hear 'Don't Fight It'.

Up to Dead in the Water. So far I am disappoint. Chasing the Rapture, and now Dead in the Water are the only ones to have really captured my attention.

Is it just me or does The Wicked Ones completely lack a serious low end? (As well as being the most boring song they've ever written)

Nah it's not just you Tom. Hell, I listened to the album again this morning & I can't recall how that song goes. LOL.

Don't give up on it though, as you're approaching the better stuff (Dead in the Water onwards).

Too bad my internet gave up and I cbf posting on facebook and twitter again. I'll just wait until its out/leaks. I heard a bit of the next few tracks and they were decent, but I dunno. Maybe it'll grow on me a bit but atm I won't hesitate to call it their worst by a fair way.

Good review. I've never heard any of 10 Years' albums, but they weren't bad live. The lead single for this album wasn't bad either.

Even though I enjoyed Divisions a lot, I was hoping that this album was going to be a bit heavier through out.

@fromtheinside, I totally agree

It's like they went into the record thinking that by making it harder, they would automatically make a better record, yet in the process they forgot what made their first records so much better than most modern rock bands.

"Maybe it'll grow on me a bit but atm I won't hesitate to call it their worst by a fair way." You must not have heard their debut... their proper debut, not K.A.T.H.Y.

"Wow. You're quick. Good review." I'm like lightening. Thanks.

Thanks Trey... Hey everyone, Trey made me review this.

Thanks Phideaux.

PayneTiger, if you continue to give this a chance, I think you will like it a fair bit... if you liked 'Division'.

fti & deder, I actually cannot argue with any of your thoughts & reasoning. Rather well said... I just don't think it drags the album down as much as you guys think. Then again, I'm more of a mainstream rock kinda guy.

Definitely their weakest out of the three.

Agreed. I think both 'The Autumn Effect' and 'Division' are better than this. I'd rate this just above 'Killing All That Holds You' though, even if most around here won't.
