Doing some classic prog 101
This is pretty catchy and song oriented tbh. I guess some modern prog metal bands just wanna do chugga chugga diddle dooddle instead of writing songs, wanky ones, but songes. Nothing beats a good prog wank though

Does the last nine minutes of Moonchild count as “prog wank”??

No it's free improvisation. Similar to Derek Bailey's recordings with Spontaneous Music Ensemble

My comment was in jest, I just think a nine-minute chunk of free improv kills the momentum of the album a bit.
Something like e.g. Province on RED works better in the context of the record, and is at least a far more interesting (imo, obviously) bit of dawdling.

Preach.
‘Nothing beats a good prog wank though‘
Dry, dirty, shame-ridden and ultimately unsatisfying?

Can endorse that opinion, can't endorse that rating.

The second half of this album really cripples it for me... yes, even the title track sadly. But the first half is so brilliant that I have to at least give the album a 3.5
