But, actually, we need much more comments in the prog reviews made on this site.

True.

I'd put Red and possibly Larks' above this. Not Lizard, though I do think Lizard is underrated in general.

I'd actually take Poseidon and Islands over Lizard. I think Poseidon gets a bad rap for being structured too similarly to this album. If their releases were reversed, Poseidon would be hailed as a masterpiece and this would be seen as the inferior copy cat. But in a vacuum, they are both excellent.

Really these guys were just phenomenal from Discipline and earlier.

I do like some of the tracks they did after, but there isn't a single album that I truly love.

Can't much disagree on just about anything you're saying, tackytoe. That said, still do think the comparable tracks between this and Poseidon are a wee bit stronger here, what with the Schizoid Man and title track of it all. Powerhouses.

Think Lizard helps for me with it being the first I heard in full (thanks spicy album art whilst thumbing my dad's CDs back in the day), but the cerebral jazziness does it for me. Discipline's mad cool too, Fripp's mathematical approach and Belew's texture experiments just sing together.

Would give Thrak a nod too, although can hear the argument that it's too busy for its own good.

I could see Islands being over Lizard, but not Poseidon - I've only listened twice and never felt compelled to revisit, didn't do much for me.

As for this album, it's a bit of the same problem, except it's better, but maybe the continual "GREATEST ALBUM EVER MADE IN HISTORY OF PROG AND MUSIC AAAAAAAAA" attitude has kind of worn me out.

My impression of this album has always been, "hey that was pretty cool" and not much more. Red and Discipline were always the big two that pulled me in

"I could see Islands being over Lizard, but not Poseidon"

I'd say the opposite pretty much because of what tectac said. Poseidon is awesome on its own. Pictures of a City slaps as hard as Schizoid Man

Imma be real Jeff, that ain't a good take. King Crimson are one of the most well-crafted and cutting edge groups in the genre by far. Some of their albums are overrated, yes, but hardly "uncooked and stale"

McDonald's food is pre-cooked when it arrives to the stores. Literally impossible for it to be under-cooked unless (1) there was a major QC error at one of the factories, or (2) you meant "not warmed up enough".

Even this is kind of an understatement. King Crimson are *the* quintessential prog rock band
