Because that would be boring...

Because the separate tracks wouldn't be as unique that way.

What Nag said. Also listen to ''Pictures of a City'' from the album ''In the Wake of Poseidon''.

^yep, that one is an obvious nod to Schizoid Man. Well, the whole of In The Wake is modeled after In The Court.

I wouldn't say the whole of it. There a few distinct differences; the 3 part 'Peace' and 'Cat Food' help give the album it's own identity. Plus The Devil's Triangle differs greatly in style compared to this album's improv track, Moonchild.

Think you got me wrong there Jamie, I didn't mean that it copied the structure entirely with 'modeled

after'. I very much agree with the differences you noted.

Oh right, my bad. I tend to get defensive when people criticize Poseidon because of its similarities to this (I realise that's not what you were doing) as it's one of my favourite KC albums and I actually enjoy it almost as much as this album.

Pictures of a City = 21st Schizoid Man

Cadence and Cascade = I Talk to the Wind

In the Wake of Poseidon = Epitaph and The Court of the Crimson King

The Devil's Triangle represents their obligatory improv, even if it's way more structured than Moonchild.

Cat Food would fit very well into Lizard.

All in all, all the songs from ITCOTCK are covered by In the Wake of Poseidon.

Yeah, Poseidon is great. Apparently I still had my rating for it at a 3.5, should have upped that to a 4 already. And there you have it, now I'm in the mood to jam some early KC albums later ;)

@Jethro: Indeed. I actually like The Devil's Triangle a lot more than Moonchild. I also think Pictures of a City is pretty much on the same level as Schizoid.

poseidon is one of the only crim albums i've never heard, sounds like it's pretty underrated from what i've heard on this site, i'll check it out

Hmm that is a little odd if you've heard most of the others.

my personal favorite era is larks' tongues and everything after, i've only heard this, islands and lizard because my dad is a massive fan, but he never played me poseidon

i've also never heard construKtion of light but it doesn't seem like that's worth checking out

It isn't, I think it's their worst album.

On a side note, I'm slightly unhappy with the wrongly colored version of that fantastic cover art currently featuring here.
