Yes, actually it is. By the looks of it, you first decided to listen to Unlorja on Nov. 29th 2010 and also declared it wank that very same day. Is there a certain musical tempo that bands should stay under to avoid aggravating your wank meter?

Unlorja takes some time to digest, as it is 80 minutes long and has a lot of content. I suggest listening to Illuminance and then Viela. They have less "wank" and are a bit easier to follow, to ease you into this unique style of music.

at first this was just "pretty good" for me. But now after listening to it, it's really so awesome. Maybe it's just perfect for me, since I'm a fan of both metalcore and fantasy games lol. But yes it really is great, well I think it is XD

I really fucking love Viela and that short Village of the Elders interlude.

so bloc told me to listen to this because they were better than the crinn and they're both on the same level of "well it's got potential but it's handled poorly)

Could you give an example of how to handle this potential correctly?

Not make eighty minute albums with a bunch of instrumental crap that serves no purpose except for interrupting the flow of a song/sounding obnoxious/providing a trance-like state when you're not intending that at all.

Last track should really only be listened to once, unless you like long stories, it's really a 50 minute album.

True. Though technically, the album is more like 63 minutes, since the story portion kicks in at around the 64th minute, and so it only takes up a little more than half of the last track. The first half of the last track is a very nice sounding mixture of synth elements, with a Final Fantasy type feel. I think Journal was exploring their sound in the realm of classical music, using mass orchestration. Haven't heard of many other musical acts attempting something like this.

Hahahahaha! This is kind of funny to me. People really seem uncomfortable with the idea of someone creating a new style of music. They always have to compare it to something that they are familiar with to be ok with it.

Don't get me wrong - Protest the hero is a good band, but I personally know some of the members of Journal. They don't even listen to Protest the Hero. I can 100% guarantee that Protest is not an influence of theirs. If you are looking for Journal influences, the following acts would be more accurate ones:

Nobuo Uematsu

Dillinger Escape Plan

Training For Utopia

Koji Kondo

...and pretty much anything Nintendo from back in the day

Lmao buddy my album ratings are very close to yours. Maybe you should grow up because that is not the only problem I bring up.

Guise, vocals were so weak on this. Gaiz!

The vocals were great on this album alright except some parts where its almost spoken. The growls are the positives in my mind and the instrumental work is incredibly well crafted. Plus for many people including myself if the vocals aren't good its really tough to get into the band. I'm sorry my opinion isn't going to click with yours all the time.
