There were just so many things wrong with the film

The movie seemed a bit safe for a Burton production but it was still great
a lot better than the lame-ass Charlie and the Chocolate factory and Alice movies

I didn't really care that it went from being this kind of gothic horror film to almost goofy slapstick comedy. It's just that the direction in the film was terrible, everything just felt like it was there to set up some joke. Plus the fact that all the supporting actors were completely underutilized (seriously, what the fuck was Jonny Lee Miller even doing there?). Like, aside from the intro the movie begins with Vicki arriving at the house and being introduced to the family and seeing the ghosts so you get the feeling that (even though the movie will clearly revolve more around Depp's character) that the film might actually be told from her point of view. But no, Depp comes back into it and she pretty much disappears until the last 20 minutes of the movie. And what the fuck was up with that last 20 minutes anyway? It felt like another movie just tacked on as an afterthought. And the girl just happened to be a werewolf? What the fuck??
