Album Rating: 3.0

Increasingly hyped young producer James Blake returns with a 4 track, 16 minute EP titled 'CMYK'. Clearly progressing from his earlier recordings, this release contains heavy contemporary R&B leanings in amongst Blake's combination of glitches & ambience. The opening title track is a great example of this, using samples from the likes of Kelis & Aaliyah to deliver his most immediate & upbeat track yet. Having said that, the EP is not aimed at dancefloors, and as a whole is not exactly accessible, involving or memorable. 'CMYK' is at least an improvement on its predecessor though, with all but 'Footnotes' showing genuine promise.
