'there are those that...will write off Aaron Turner and Sanford Parker's contributions in steering them away from the depressive Black Metal sound of their debut'

That's exactly what makes this album so incredible. Their injection of doom and post-metal riffs combined with the lo-fi aesthetic of black metal

--specifically the distortion, which sounds like their amps were smashed in by an angry fucking gorilla-- makes this one of my favourite albums in a long, long time

and in the process they snagged Sanford Parker of Minsk

If they hadn't had Sandford Parker on this album, I think this would have suffered alot.

Everything he touches fucking rules!!! I was just looking through the liner notes of This Comp Kills Fascists Vol. 1 and all the songs he contributes on (instrument/ production) fucking rule the roost on that album.

More people should listen to this album. I'm thinking about bumping my rating up. Don't know, but sometimes I find it lacks something and other times I find it near perfect -_-

Got a chance to hear it all and all I can say is God damn what an album. The vocals in the last 2

minutes of the album are Godly and perfectly seal the whole thing.

well given that my interest in raw-ass black metal is currently at a minimum and this hits my loves of

post-metal, sludge, and black metal i haven't heard anything that even comes close to this. plus i'm

more of an indie-kid.

You should listen to the Plague of our Lands split. It's black/shoegaze that's pretty good. Also the Thranenkind/Heretoir split. Honestly, it's kinda like indie black metal

I have the Thranekind/Heretoir split. The new Alcest is a lot better.

I don't like the Alcest album that much, I think it's way too hyped. That being said, I'm a Thranenkind fanboy so my opinion doesn't really count on that I guess haha.

I knew you'd get into it eventually. There's just so much that it offers.

The whole inconsistency of the disc really threw me off at first but then I realized that I do enjoy a majority of the ground that it covers.
