Sounds like they made a huge effort with this and that it wasn't some nostalgia cash grab. I wish a band I actually really liked would do that.
Decibel gave this 10/10 if that helps? I was pretty convinced by their review to preorder this.

I don't really like these guys enough to sit through a CD let alone three DVDs.
|
| |
Perhaps I should get this, nice to see people that actually appreciate At The Gates. There are the people who say "Slaughter of the Soul" and nothing else, and then others are anti-sots. I like all of At The Gates,
|
| |
MUST HAVE! I only have SoTS. Definitely need to check this puppy out.
|
| |
I'm sorry Willie, did you say something? Ha ha, it's cool. I just think they're a bit overrated compared to some other albums from around that same time period. Also, Slaughter of the Soul kind of takes the focus away from a few unsung albums such as North From Here by Sentenced and Heartwork by Carcass that should always be mentioned. As for this band, I like With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness and think it would be awesome with a better production.
|
| |
yeah the production kills WFIKTBD, and Heartwork is certainly underappreciated, although not necessarily on this site.
|
| |
Where I'm around, Carcass is known more than At the Gates.
|
| |
The Gallery will always be the best melodeath album guys :P
|
| |
The Gallery's great, top 5 melodeath for me for sure. ok, melodeath ranked:
1. Slaughter of the Soul (At the Gates)
2. Heartwork (Carcass)
3. Whoracle (In Flames)
4. The Gallery (Dark Tranquillity)
5. The Chainheart Machine (Soilwork)
|
| |
have you listened to Dismember? you probably should give Like An Ever Flowing Stream a listen, since those bands got quite a lot of their ideas from bands like Dismember and Entombed
|
| |
I wouldn't put Soilwork there for my life.
|
| |
I like Dismember and Entombed, they're just not melodeath. Like An Ever-Flowing Stream and Left Hand Path (plus Clandestine for that matter, and even Wolverine Blues) rule.
I was trying to keep that to one album per band.. what melodeath album would you replace The Chainheart Machine with? I haven't been able to find full albums from Autumn Leaves or Garden of Shadows, or else I probably would've put one of theirs on there. Plus that Soilwork album is awesome, whatchu talkin bout.
|
| |
Ehh I never liked them. But yeah I might of added Autumn Leaves or something.
|
| |
but have you only heard post-Chainheart Machine Soilwork? not saying you have, bc you know your shit, but I've met a lot of people that hate on Soilwork for all their shitty albums like Sworn To A Great Divide, Stabbing the Drama, Figure Number Five etc. The Chainheart Machine has the aggression of At the Gates, the melody of In Flames, the guitar work of Carcass.. I dunno, maybe it's just me but I think that album's the shit.
|
| |
ah good just checking, Like An Ever Flowing Stream is like my favourite dm album ever
I rarely listen to melodeath anymore, aside from Dark Tranquillity, Hypocrisy, Slaughter Of The Soul, Heartwork, and the occasional In Flames and Insomnium album. Its just such a tired genre sadly
|
| |
it's definitely fantastic, I need to listen to it again it's been awhile. I'm pretty high on Symbolic and None So Vile as far as non-melodeath goes.
|
| |
Soilwork were never that special to me. Fade's right, genre is getting stale.
|
| |
fair enough. Soilwork were probably the first melodeath band I got into back in high school w/ A Predator's Portrait, so that likely explains my affinity for them.
|
| |
Don't forget Hypocrisy
|
| |
fuck I forgot about Hypocrisy, I love them too
