I dig this album very much. Rather surprised to see that people find it boring...

I would have loved to hear a loud obnoxious Brave during Brave, a loud obnoxious Murder during Murder, and a loud obnoxious Day during day whhile the song closes out...Brave...Murder...Day.

Well there is Day in every chorus of Day, but not obnoxious.

But still, you've got to love the almighty roar in Brave:

WHEREVER YOU AAAAAAREEE

I AM NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

Sick album. So much better than The Cold Great Distance. This album alone makes Katatonia worth checking out -- I'm just sorry it took me so long to get around to it.

A lot of times when it comes to bands, the first album is a make or break. If I like it, I get into other stuff, naturally. And I do think bias plays a roll in me rating my first albums higher than ones following ... that's not to say they are ALWAYS my favorite, but they always hold a special place.

TCGD, while enjoyable, didn't make me excited. It's so rare then for me to find myself in a position in which I instantly will attest that the second album I've heard from an artist is better -- no hesitation, no need to re listen to make a mental tally of strengths/weaknesses -- instant knowledge. This is better by far.

Some of the music (no, I'm not referring to vocals exclusively) are very reminiscent of Orchid, but more refined. Which I dug instantly.

I hadn't ever heard Katatonia's vocalist's growls, so I was initially impressed, which is part of the reason I'm here right now writing this comment -- had to find out more about it. Well, I guess I'll have to wait a bit more to jump back another album to hear him ... this itself will be keeping me busy for a while.

Certainly an impressive album however part of me can't help but wish they never left their Dance of December Souls era sound.

Last Fair Deal Gone down is an amazing album though.
