The review makes it pretty obvious that you rated the album after first listen, although I guess you still don't like it? In any case, I just wanted to point out that their coherence is different than what most music fans (me when I first started listening to them...) are used to. They don't really do the chorus/verse/chorus/break(breakdown?) stuff type formula. However, even though it doesn't have that kind of formula, the album constantly goes back to a familiar feeling or riff which obviously makes it a concept album. (there are parts of informal gluttony in prequel to the sequel, and parts of ants of the sky in white walls, and so on and so forth) To be quite honest, I'm not sure if it was lazy writing or intentional, but I can only assume as a fan that it was intentional, although I can see how someone would consider it laziness... Really what makes me believe it was intentional was the absolute perfection of the live DVD, I mean, they don't forget where they're going with the songs, so they must have a reason for making this go there and that go here, and whatnot, at least that's what I choose to believe, lol. Anyway, I'm not trying to open your eyes or anything, if you don't like it, you just don't like it, but maybe there's something in that mess that I just typed that you hadn't considered, who knows?

I agree with the post above. The impression I get from this review is that the reviewer rated after first listen and doesn't usually listen to music like this.

@ theat001 and Erratic

Actually at first I rated the album 2/5. After multiple listens I finally gave it a 2.5 and wrote the review. I kept listening to it after the review was done and finally rated it a 3. It's not a bad album, but it could have been a lot better in my opinion.

I generally listen to this kind of stuff, Protest The Hero and Dream Theater in particular. I also have THE GREAT MISDIRECT rated 4/5 which is pretty much the highest rating i give to albums.

Lastly, thank you both (especially theat001) for not being jerks in your opinions and observations.

While I agree with your opinion on this....the review isn't well written. The album and band in general seems like a bunch of cool parts thrown together. The Ho-down in ants of the sky is a lot of fun, but really has no place in the song. Prequel is a bunch of similar-ish riffs put together. The songs are enjoyable because all the parts presented in the songs they write are, by themselves good, but they're not put together in a way that makes actual songs. I wish they'd write actual songs instead of putting riffs together that are cool. That's how they've been since the beginning though, I guess. The new EP shows a lot of promise for the future imo.

Exactly. The songs are completely emotionless.

I understand if you think the review is not well-written. However, if you're judging the opinion it's pretty stupid.

It's just chugging and sweeping, and it's poorly organized, it was their most in depth album but it was written in a very sloppy manner, but I shouldn't be bashing on them so much because this was their first attempt to show this new side of them, but the great misdirect was basically a cleaned up version of colors but it was a little more shallow Than colors, now hyper sleep dialogues gave you the cleaned up orchestration and yet even had more depth than colors, and it was just an EP, long story short they have matured their new sound and are going to see if they can keep it up with future sequence
