But......I love mother!

you're misreading my criticism eno. The review was and still kind of is to some degree a checklist of what's in each song and yet I still somehow feel like I haven't any idea what the album sounds like. Like, if I see a plate of food, a list of the ingredients isn't as appetizing as how it appeals to the senses, man
|
| |
to be fair i dont think i could explain further what the album sounds like; i think i did that pretty well, but i think that i just explained what each song sounds like without how it affects the rest of the album or what significance it holds, and i didn't make much commentary on the album as a whole, making it a pseudo-tbt, only more pretentious. maybe our criticisms are different after all

^....What he said. While it was in a techincal sense a track by track review, I think it worked more towards the general feel of the album as a whole. It tends to be that way, with the type of reviews that incorporate the tracks in the middle of paragraphs.
But I see where you're getting at. I just disagree with you on the review's general....erm....you get what I'm saying.

This band has a damn near immaculate collection. I can't wait until the Monomania follow up.
|
| |
go!
|
| |
i actually did start the album, northern :P
|
| |
me too !
|
| |
it's been a while so i'm really hoping i can enjoy this more now than i did when i first heard it. i remember thinking 'meh' and leaving it behind for years. only on the third track right now but i'm enjoying it so far. far less accessible than halcyon or monomania.
second track had a pretty cool messy ending. could swear i heard so much going on. chants, shouts, dueling guitars
|
| |
guess it's the sort of album where you have to just let it wash all over you. i like it so far lake sommerset killer bass
|
| |
providence sounds a bit like moss garden?? george harrison-style ofc
|
| |
it totally does. i'm enjoying this so far, much different deerhunter experience though. this is definitely, as you said, one of those albums you put on and just get lost in. i like the little effects they add like running water and birds chirping. about to dive into octet stream
|
| |
yeah lovely effects at the of the stream is a sweet winter landscape
|
| |
yah octet stream just kind of came and went. that isn't a criticism either, i was practically hypnotized by it, barely recognized it went on for like 7 minutes.
i hate to say the obvious, but: this really doesn't even feel like a deerhunter album. not as i've come to know and appreciate them, at least. doesn't make this less enjoyable, just a much weirder, sort of out-of-place album in their discog
|
| |
yeah and as much as i love halcyon digest i don't listen to a lot because it's so damn depressive and i try to avoid that state. this i can listen to anytime, same with microcastle
