I just finished my third listen so that 4 is tentative. It’s definitely another great album for sure. Yes I Would is such a great closer.

this is more of a grower than TMOF imo.

Yeah seems like. TMOF was a 5 on first listen. The arrangements seem slightly more complex, so it takes time to pick up on everything and really hear the song.

Early favorites are Skip the Youth, Footshooter and Yes I Would. Phenomenal tracks.

It's a bit sophomoric (I guess discounting Sing The Greys as that's always forgotten) in terms of how plush the production is, I can see how someone could find it overbearing, but I really think it works quite well. TMOF is wrought with personal turmoils and biting truths, and TWOMD aggrandises the same turmoils brilliantly. I don't think this album would work as well if it was presented with the same palette as TMOF.

I can agree with that. I feel like this album more or less picks up where TMOF left off and continues that thread of optimism and hope from Floating in the Forth. This is more of a triumphant album imo, which I really like. At least that’s what I’m getting from it after 3 listens. Need to go through the lyrics for a clearer, more complete view.

Yeah it is, or at the very least it has the facade of hope. Like someone really having to force themselves into a position of optimism. Mostly I love all the nautical themes cropping up, it really anchors (haw haw) the whole album.

I can relate to a lot of this as I’ve struggled with depression and addiction for 20 years. Sometimes you have to be optimistic or else you’ll crumble. You also have periods of feeling great, so hope can stem there as well. You actually think you’ve conquered it finally — or try to convince yourself of it. Until the depression returns, and usually worse than ever.

The nautical theme makes sense in the way that depression comes in waves...and those waves tend to grow bigger with each episode.

Revisiting this for maybe the first time since it came out it's hitting me a lot differently in a good way. Don't think I gave it a fair shake at the time.

Hear that, this one definitely gets a (relatively speaking) bad rap for not having the same sort of self-loathing gut punch that Organ Fight does when it ain't trying to. That one reads pretty clearly as a record where the introspection is motivated by a collapsed relationship, so it has an inherent sort of drama.

This one's just introspection for its own sake, less flashy but ultimately just as rich and beautiful

Not as good as Organ Fight but easily their second best. Footshooter is awesome.

Some days I love this as much as TMOF, it's never gonna be as iconic but the songs are great and the overwrought production kinda matches the nautical themes.

Feels like only the other day I went to the 10yr anniversary tour for TMOF. Glad I got to go to one more show before Scott went.
