After one listen, I don't think it's bad at all, just sub par compared to everything else.

so ive never listened to DT before, and i kinda want to now. is this a good starting point? if so, where should i go from here. if not, where should i begin?

Fiction, Character and Damage Done are the best to start with

The Gallery is their best album though, so you could start with that i guess

I would like to be in the circle jerk.

'disappointing' is the key word here, but by no means a bad album. it's a solid 3, nothing more nothing less and basically 3 listens were enough for me, no more, no less. I just wish the whole album was as good as the closer, 'Iridium'.

Iridium is a fantastic song.

this album reminds me a lot of 'Skyforger' by Amorphis in that it's far from a bad album, however it uses the same old trusted formula that made us love the band, but with weaker songwriting. as a result, this exposes their flaws exactly as the review says. clearly they've run out of ideas.

As I said though, 'Iridium' gives some hope that the band may not be a one-trick pony afterall
