i only ever listen to individual tracks from Long Drive

in terms of albums, they did the same kind of thing but better on Lonesome Crowded West

my favorite early-period release from them tho is Building Nothing out of Something

The thing that's really cool is that most of their albums have a similar sound (i.e. you can easily tell it's Modest Mouse), but they generally have entirely different atmospheres and feelings to them.

Reminds me of Harlots

Three albums, all different, but under the same umbrella of sound

Sometimes bands can change with subtlety like that, no need for anything grandiose.

The change from Long Drive and LCW to M&A, is not really subtle. It's quite grandiose

see lots of times an album is too long and its a bad thing but thats because the music is not very good

when youre talking about a band like modest mouse, length is a good thing, they fucking rule

I love that Modest Mouse records are so long. There's a lot to explore even if it isn't all good, and they're perfect for playing on long drives of course. Also, throwing on a Modest Mouse album in the background while hanging out with a group of friends is always comfy as hell

Oh we mumble loudly

Wear our shapes so proudly

Wore our blank expressions

Trying to look interesting

Do you believe what you're saying?

Yeah, right now, BUT NOT THAT OFTEN

Love that line. Not sure why I haven't jammed any of their other stuff yet this album hit me really hard a few years ago

Shitty day yesterday. Jammed this and I immediately feel better. Praise be to Isaac.

Damn this is great (first listen). I know this is sacrilege here but I might prefer this to Moon. Not as good as Long Drive or LCW though. Those are just perfection.

This has grown on me a lot since first spin but it's still definitely a clear step down from what they did before. Light 4 because there are 5-6 amazing songs and only a couple are actually anywhere near bad.

I know this is your first time delving into their discog as well. Really curious about WWD and StO, but especially We Were Dead.
