k idk what ive been listening to then because according to wikipedia it is just two movements
|
| |
it is
those aren't different movement but entirely different pieces
tabula rasa is not an album
there are multiple albums featuring tabula rasa recordings
https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/multiple/tabula_rasa/
this is the premiere and what most people think of when they hear tabula rasa
|
| |
this gets rather little discussion for how much people always say they like it whenever it comes up on some list
|
| |
never really listened to any other works from him, but this is near perfect. really don't have any negatives, dunno why I haven't checked his other material. If you have suggestions..

you most likely have (partially) heard für alina before
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R2nT0RBfPE
the standard recording for that would be https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/vladimir_spivakov___sergej_bezrodny___dietmar_schwalke___alexander_malter/alina/
then there's te deum, da pacem and de profundis as more in the same vein of minimal sound fetishism
https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/arvo_part/de_profundis__theatre_of_voices_paul_hillier_/
https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/arvo_part/da_pacem__estonian_philharmonic_chamber_choir_paul_hillier__christopher_bowers_broadbent_/
https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/tallinn_chamber_orchestra_estonian_philharmonic_chamber_choir_tonu_kaljuste/te_deum/
and a neat full piano music release from this year
https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/arvo_part/fur_anna_maria__jeroen_van_veen___piano_/
in all fairness this gets old pretty quick though which is why i have stopped going any deeper into pärt
i've been told though that his earlier works are a lot more interesting
the only thing i've heard so far is his first symphony and it's definitely a lot more vivid

I have Litany, Psalom, and Trisagion (one CD) but a guy I knew has told me repeatedly to listen to this one. My impression of him so far though is that I can't imagine any of his pieces having a different mood. Should I seek this out do you think?
|
| |
he's one of the most relevant composers of the 20th century and this is arguably the album to best exemplify what he is about
i have not heard those three pieces and they were completed around 10 years after tabula rasa so they might be different
anyway, you should probably listen to this

File arvo part under “people I was shocked to hear are still alive”
|

Most performed living composer!
|

Still think this is the absolute best piece of classical music.
|
| |
Tabula Rasa is definitely one of the clear highlights of contemporary classical. The second movement is so beautiful, that it destroys me.
|
| |
The last minute of Ludus is still to this day one of the best things I've ever heard
