This sounds like ol' opeth to me, just not as good. Ghost Of Perdition owns soooo hard though.

Oh yes it does. Love it. This album has some other good ones as well, like BtM and stuff. Honestly though, the album as a whole really anti-grew on me. Liked it a lot when I first got it and everything, but meh. Their mood is not there anymore and it seems that they are conforming a little, imo.

The Baying of the Hounds and Beneath the Mire are my favorites. This album onspired me to investigate earlier Opeth, and I've realized the greatness of Blackwater Park.

You still need to fix the sub-paragraphs in bold.

The lyric quotes.

They're messed up in some spots.

Maybe we're on different browsers or something, because it all looks perfect to me.

I bought this cd yesterday. I think it's an amazing cd. It has some of the raw, non-cheesy intensity of Deliverance, but the overall sound is so much more focused and consistent.

There are some great surprises along the way, but Opeth does what they do best. They create dynamic contrasts between evil, sinister metal sections and soothing, yet dissonant progressive breaks. This is what they also did on Still Life and Blackwater Park, obviously. While Still Life is still my favorite, Ghost Reveries' flow, production, and overall merit has kicked Deliverance off from its number 2 spot.

Buzzment, I have an emotional connection with Deliverance. It was the first Opeth album I ever listened to, and I loved it right from the start. It doesn't have as many mellow sections as some other albums, but the beautiful parts are still there. I know it lacks a certain flow and focus, but I still rate it very highly.

Deliverance is an excellent album in its own way.

By The Pain I See In Others is one of my favorite Opeth songs. Akefeldt's voice is beastly on that.

I totally agree, Shattered Future. I hate growls, and that's the only thing about Opeth I don't like. However, his voice is so dark and haunting on By The Pain I See In Others. I actually like it in that song, which is one the reasons it's one of my favorite Opeth songs, too.

Deliverance is one of the best things they've ever done. And it was one album at once, as it took another year for them to release Damnation.

No, Scruples, they recorded them both in the same session under extreme stress, the songs were half finished in the studio, technical problems, bad studio staffing etc. etc. Damnation was only released a year later, not recorded a year later. This Message Edited On 12.21.05

Opethians are so varied about their favourite Opeth albums, this is while a friend of mine tries to convince me that Placebo makes better music than Opeth....

I'm always surprised to hear that people consider Ghost of Perdition to be the best and most like older Opeth. I think it's one of the weakest songs on the album.

It just dpesn't strike me as being as good as the others. The other songs flowed really well and had a great integration of heavy/clean acoustic, but Ghost of Perdition seemed to have a less listenable tincture and softer parts that seemed forced.

I much prefer Baying of the Hounds, Reverie/Harlequin Forest, and Beneath the Mire.

Ghost Of Perdition, Baying Of The Hounds, Beneath The Mire, Reverie/Harlequin Forest are all incredible songs, IMO. The others are great too, but those four are all candidates for my favorite song from the album. I just can't decide.
