Wow, this album makes Repentless look like complete dogshit, like this is ten times better than Repentless in pretty much every way.

Is it? They hit the same trajectory of most major metal bands.

After the classic first five, this and DI are solid and CI is great. The rest is just mediocre, but still have a few good songs each. This band never made a Super Collider or Lulu at least, but I like all three bands around the same at this point.

I view this the same as God Hates Us All: stand out moments but too much filler.

Title track is the best song here imo. It's not your usual Slayer, but it's really fucking good.

The guitars sound useless on this record. Compared to the heavy sound they had on Christ Illusion it's pretty sad how bad this record sounds. Old school thrashy maybe, but they still don't have much heft to them.

Slayer have played a ton of different kind of songs. The only album really worth taking a shit on is Repentless, should have been a goodbye EP, has it has 5-6 songs that are okay, good and 1 great.
Not a fan of Christ Illusion but I really really love Divine Intervention, DI got this shit-talk from the thrashers of the 80's who got into death metal in the 90's and ignored thrash from thereon is the truth.

Best songs are title,. track, Unit 731, Snuff, Beauty Through Order, Hate Worldwide and then the highlights, Psychopathy Red and Not of This God, man, Lombardo really registers his finale with Slayer with that short powerblast at the end of that song so full of hate. Can't believe it's a fully King song, while this album is amazing because everyone participated, like since Divine.

I find the t/t insufferable but in the rest there's some of their best stuff since DI. Human Strain for instance is sweet, especially from 1:30. Lombardo rules and even if Araya is still trying too hard there's a few legit catchy vocal moments (namely 2:00 into Human Strain)

I love this album. I was blown away immediately when I heard it and since the previous few albums in Slayer's career didn't have too much of an affect on me I bought this without having very high expectations, but Slayer is one of my favorite ever metal bands and specifically Hanneman is one of my favorite guitarists/songwriters and since this was tragically his final album I was secretly hoping there would be at least one golden nugget in this album that he left behind for the world that resembled his brilliance in writing/playing like classics of his from the past whether it be "Angel Of Death," "Raining Blood," or "Seasons In the Abyss." I was crossing my fingers hoping to receive just one more masterpiece from my thrash Riff guitar guru. Then as I was really digging the riffs of the first song, and getting into it more from the cool vocal patterns of the 4th song I could just feel the anticipation growing and I knew somewhere toward the end there it would be, a classic Hanneman Riff that makes your blood pump and your adrenaline rise like few bands in history make us feel, especially when an awesome Hanneman Riff is being driven home by frenetic Lombardo drumming, tightly woven Kerry King rhythm playing, and ferocious Tom Araya shouts. Then out of nowhere there it was, "Psychopathy Red" starts at light speed from out of the abyss and I was blessed with one last Hanneman masterwork! I was ecstatic! I'll never forget that feeling and every time I play that song to this day my face lights up with a huge smile and that rush of endorphins comes shooting back to me. To me it just might be my all-time favorite Hanneman Riff even surpassing the mighty "Angel Of Death." I couldn't have wished for more from one of my guitar heroes. He didn't disappoint. R.I.P. Jeff, thank you for the legacy you left and how good your art makes me feel when I am privileged enough to experience it!
