I dont mind this band, but I love Evanescense. So if you expected this to suck why did you even bother listening and doing a review for it?

Because I like their old stuff, but I couldn't see how it could be anything except crap in an acoustic setting.
|
| |
First band I ever saw live.
|
| |
were they any good live?
|
| |
Not too bad, not too good. It was cheap and close by. I suppose I would settle for 6-7/10
|
| |
aight, also, that's pretty much the description for the whole band: not too bad, not too good
|
| |
Awwww... I really like this band :7(

oooo 2 Fiterbut's reviews getting featured at the same time. But seriously, good work mate, you deserve it, great writing on your part.
|
| |
Willie reviews like clockwork though.
I now set my watch to match his metal reviews.

I don't usually review this often. I'm just trying to do some last minute reviews for 2009 releases without one.

I'm just pretty sick of the whole acoustic unplugged fad. I want plugged, dammit! It's why I got into metal in the first place so many years ago. When I see the unplugged or acoustic in the description I just stop reading.

The Anathema acoustic album is awesome. Some of the songs on there are better than the originals... but mostly, I agree with you.

But you are always on time, like an atomic clock
I set my readers to go tick tock tick tock
'Cause, yeah, I love reading Willie Fister
I know he's worth the e-pages, mister

'Not known for their songwriting skills'??
Uh? With respect, one of us may benefit from an ear transplant...

They're not. You may disagree, but without the abundance of keyboards and orchestras they're very simple and standard tracks. The one thing they have going for them is Sharon. With a different, less skilled, vocalist almost all Within Temptation tracks would fall flat.
|
| |
So, take away the keyboards, orchestra and singer and all you have are simple songs? I guess you're right. Point is, the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. My amazement is more with the ease with which you dismiss songs with the haunting beauty of Somewhere and Memories.
I guess the adage is true. One man's meat....

I think both you guys present valid points.
I agree that Sharon's voice is definatly their strongest point, however Sharon alone doesn't make the songs. Call them overproduced, over the top, whatever, they do know how to make a damn nice song, imo, and sometimes, that's all that matters. If I want compexity I'll go look somehwere else.
