Personally, I enjoy their last few albums but I have to agree with the energy statement. The vibe is different than their early 90s stuff.

Yeah, this got too much hate. But coming after Draconian Times, it was expected...

Indeed. I always put it in the same category as Theatre of Tragedy's Aegis, Anathema's Judgement and 34.788%... Complete among others. Significant turning points with varying degrees of success.

I think a bigger turning point was A Fine Day to Exit (pity it's my least fav Anathema) or Eternity. Aegis is almost as good as Velvet Darkness They Fear, but for all the different reasons. 34.788%... Complete is pretty interesting and very enjoyable, but I prefer MDB's main style.
And I like Host a bit more than this.

Eternity was a turning point as well. A Fine Day to Exit is for me the point of no return haha. Aegis is indeed excellent even though Liv's reduced role saddened me at the time but 34.788% is my least favorite MDB and definitely not my cup of tea.
Regarding Host, I need to revisit it but I remember not enjoying it when it came out.

I think it turned out really well and I revisited it many times. Their songs also sounded more interesting to me than many other synthpop tracks I've heard (not that I have a vast knowledge of the genre) and I like Depeche Mode's Violator.

Not a big fan of Violator or Depeche Mode, unfortunately. But I'll give Host a listen and see how it feels. It's without a review too!

Violator rules, I doubt I would like this and Host as much if I didnt like that era of Depeche Mode. Yeah, they're a big departure from the previous albums but they still have the same vibe, its just a different musical style.

They go downhill from here though, Requiem definitely saved them, even though all the albums between still have some great songs.

I might actually like this and Host more than most of their newer stuff, they just seem more fresh and unique, compared to their last few albums which sound like a less interesting version of Icon/Draconian Times era.

Symbol of Life is the strongest album from the One Second-S/T era.
I see where you're coming from, Nero, but I've never treated them as such. There's a certain sound to them that just wasn't present in Icon/DT.
