that's the very first thing I thought when I heard first heard Beast Of Man
very disappointing

I was considering getting this... I'll check out some more reviews. From what I've heard this sounded pretty good.

Aside from the fact Angela Gossow would be a fucking beast in bed!
Lol'd hard at that one! What's my name bitch? What's my name, ROOOOAAAAARRRR!

It's sounds narrow and watery. When you first pick it up you think, "hey this is ok" - until you realise that the originals have far more aggression and energy behind them - thanks to Nordstrom's production class on those three albums. This as I said, sounds like guitar duelling in a tapered wooden box.

One of the best producers in the genre might I add.

While Andy Sneap is normally pretty good sometimes it's better to give the guitars a much more "open" sound to them, as opposed to having them sound so tight.

While Andy Sneap is normally pretty good sometimes
Key word being 'sometimes'.

Arch Enemy's best albums are when they've worked with anyone but Sneap. Keep in mind though this was self produced and mixed by Sneap only, so it's easily two thirds their own fault.

Think it was the same with Anthems of Rebellion, am I wrong?

Sneap produced Anthems -- shows too.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Hated that with a passion, and Wages Of Sin was a reasonable effort too

"The guitars on this dont sound half agressive as the originals, especially Diva Satanica"
Yeah, and the intros to The Immortal and a few others seem a little sluggish and lazy, but other than that they're good.
Dark Insanity is fucking pwnage with Angela, which is a great improvement over the not-really-aggressive-at-all original version.

Wages of Sin and Anthems of Rebellion aren't bad, but these guys are overrated. Carcass was Ammot's better band.

I adore Wages of Sin, Black Earth and Rise of the Tyrant but a redone album tells me Arch Enemy are way past their music-making prime. I thought ROTT was solid and they would at least produce some solid follow-ups....

Sad thing is I initially thought this was just gonna be a small thing, like a in-between album thing.
Not a fully fledged album in it's own right.
If they wanted Angela to lay claim on the whole band by re-recording the old ones just for her sake they waited a few too many albums for anyone to bother caring.

They're going to go back to the studio in 2010 to work on their new work, so just be patient (again).

What's with the Enemy hate?

This album's kinda pointless imo, degrades the original versions of these songs too

I love Arch Enemy, I love how they're not afraid of doing instrumentals and calm stuff through brutal songs I don't understand how people totally hate the band. However, I find it weak to re record songs on an ENTIRE album! I would understand if they re recorded 2-3 songs on a NEW record, or having a bonus disc with some old renewed material but I will still buy this and give my thoughts about it. I really enjoyed Rise of the Tyrants and Doomsday Machine. Anthems of Rebellion and Wages of Sins are awesome too!
