they were a big gimmick, but they put on some big boy trousers and decided to write songs. I love Horse's output, cept for most of Borlax, but even I know the songwriting on Mechanical Hand or A Natural Death is fuckin child-like compared to this behemoth.

I wouldnt say they were gimmicky, seeming as a gimmick is something specifically designed to draw attention with little regard for actual quality. They just wanted to make music they wanted to make. Loads of people hated it and loads of people took them as a joke
I dunno man big gimmick seems a bit unfair/harsh
I do agree that this is an significant step up tho. Need to relisten soon, its been ages
