I really disagree with you guys about this album. I was underwhelmed with the self-titled, and although they dulled their sound I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. There are some catchy choruses and it doesn't sound like self titled 2. I can see how original fans could be turned off, but I really enjoy a lot of it. And I'm in the group that thinks Cove's singing has improved on this album, although it's rougher in the normal clean parts. His normal range still sounds kinda f'd up. That is all.

Changing is such an awful song.
I also agree with Caleb.

Fairly disappointing when you think about what level they could potentially bring themselves to.
On My Own and Is This Real are probs the best ones there, slightly reminiscent of what they are capable of perhaps?

people say they are capable of much more, but I still don't quite understand why they think that.
Perhaps they are, only time will tell.

Can't really say why, but I think I love this album.

album is too too too long.

so this turned out to be quite the grower

i like it, it's better than a lot of other stuff in this genre. But it is their weakest release.

This is a real disappointment. I never really got all the Anthony Green hype, but their S/T was an enjoyable album to throw on from time to time but this...is really meh. It's like their S/T but with all the interesting bits taken out.

they even managed to ruin the songs on the ep

It is shocking how this band ends up ruining songs that sound awesome on the EP but somehow when the album version comes out, its all bullshit. What the hell did they do to 'Keep Secrets'? The EP version is fat better than the album one in every way possible.

Yeah, this album is a grower. Doesnt quite flow like their self titled, but most tracks are pretty good.

I still don’t get the amount of crap this album gets. It’s not quite up to its predecessor, but it’s still darn catchy rock. In a sense, its consistency is both its strength & weakness, as the album does come off a little as though it’s an attempt at a collection of singles. If anything, the main disappointment is that no one individual song really wows. On My Own, The Worst Of Me, I Keep My Secrets Safe & The Alarming Sound of a Still Small Voice come the closest.

So I just realized how unmemorable this CD is. Literally the only ones that I can remember since the last time I listened to it (like a month ago) are Changing (because it's just that bad) and Keep Secrets (because I actually liked the EP version and they f'd it up so bad).

honestly idk i liked this album a great deal and who knows maybe technically, musically speaking you're right about it being average but forreal i really enjoyed this album and regardless if they haven't progressed much it still remotely sounds a tad like their self-titled so why not look at it as a continuing of that album? besides it's definitely one of the few good sophmore albums of '09
|
| |
examples of bad sophomore albums would be:
suicide silence - no time to bleed
breathe carolina - hello fascination
we the kings - smile kid
august burns red - constellations
just saying...
|
| |
"sophomore albums"
"august burns red - constellations"
whoops
also, that album ≠ bad.
