I would've loved them three years ago and that way I'd still like them nostalgically, but nope.
Is this band's earlier material worth the effort?

Although by no means essential, Unhallowed and Nocturnal are worth a listen, although i still don't know if you'd like them. It depends on what you disliked about this album.

So can someone enlighten me on why we're completely dismantling and degrading a band that can do something very well. So there's no real progression with this new release, who cares? Their connsistent and solid at what they do.
Or is that not good enough in today's standard? I just can't figure out why people think they're boring.

you answered your own question bro.
|
| |
I guess it all depends on how much you like their sound. As someone who kinda likes it but doesn't love it, their songs while played by themselves are cool, but when listening to them back to back to back on an album it just seems to all sound the same. So when you have that same sound repeated over and over from album to album the predictability kills any enjoyment that could have been had.

Great review, very well stated points. The CD isn't that great to listen to but is a commendable effort, and a perfect CD for fans of the genre. I was excited to see Ryan Knight after his awesome playing in Arsis's We Are the Nightmare, and although it's good, I was hoping he'd provide better leads. Shannon's drumming is kick ass as always too, that guy rips.

Some bands don't try to innovate on every album but still make great music like Bolt Thrower. That's kind of how I view TBDM, but not quite in as high regard of course, they aren't very influential.

Let's just say a lot of people didn't like TBDM to begin wth, and half of the people who do like them are getting tired of them using the same formula for practically every song for four albums.

individual songs are cool, it's just the fact that they all blur together after listening to like 3 of them that puts me off this band
