Excellent review. My one gripe with your opinions is your comment on the lack of diversity. Nowadays, I'd agree with you... but this is 1986, afterall. Thrash bands putting in melodic sections like the ones in Master of Puppets, shifting to the harmonizations mid-Orion, the soloing in Sanitarium... it's experimentation that has never been seen before. View this through a 1986 lens, and they're ahead of their time.



Anyways, in that sense, MOP is absolutely classic in my eyes. Always still preferred Ride The Lightning, though.

I must say that Testament and Exodus are infinitely better than any of the "Four Horseman" except for Metallica circa 1986. Overkill as well.
