I find this somewhat enjoyable, though I agree it's not on par with their best.

This is a really good album. The relationship between Blackmore and Gillan was at a very low point but the outcome is good.

"Place in Line" has nice guitar and organ solos.

I've been saving DP's "weakest" albums for last. Next up is CTTB.

CTTB is certainly different than classic Purple but I think you'll like it. Tommy Bolin does a good job and his guitar tone at this album reminisces Blackmore a bit. It's more funky than bluesy. It's kind of underrated imo.

Come Taste the Band rules. Really underrated album imo. Tommy Bolin is one of my favourite guitarists, although his performance on that album isn't the best thing he's done by any means but he still does a great job given the circumstances.

"Gettin' Tighter" has great soloing by Bolin. Yeah, I'm liking it.

Gettin Tighter is one of my favourites form CTtB, Hughes and Bolin really worked well together on that one.

Exactly. Various circumstances, drug overuse being the most serious I think.

Again, as an album that is largely overshadowed by one of Deep Purple's career-defining records, 'Machine head', it would seem that this appears weak in comparison. However, there are still a few great moments on here, as well as one or two lackluster ones. The second half of the album is strangely where the musicianship and song-writing actually begin to work well, whereas the album's first few songs are slightly too simplistic for their own good. 'Rat bat blue' is excellent and largely helped by the keyboard work, whereas the fast-paced 'Super Trouper' just doesn't quite justify why it ended up on the album.

It certainly isn't one of their best albums, however it was fun to listen. Place in Line is my favorite track from this record.

Overall not a bad album for deep purple but could of been done a little better perhaps some songs are a little weak or perhaps not too thought out.

Agreed. But thinking of the circumstances at the time, it could be even worse.
