What this album builds on over their debut in terms of song writing, melody and atmosphere it loses in (at times) overly cheesy/cringy keyboards and terrible clean vocals.
No doubting the quality on this album, I just find those two aspects quite detrimental to my listening experience, in addition to the harsh vocals still being pretty poor.

I think being buried somewhere in the middle of the mix makes them worse somehow? I agree that the keyboards really shine in places and bring a lot to the table, there's just a tendency to overdo it on occasion which really spoils the atmosphere for me.

This album kinda grew on me. The vocals are still a bit iffy (both growls and cleans but mostly the growls) but the melodies on this record are top notch.

Maybe melodeath just ain't your cup of tea. They've really changed their sound from this as they went on, so if you like other Amorphis but not this one, then it's understandable.
