Ok after my second play through of this (new listener to Thrice, up to this in their discography), I can safely say this is my second favorite Thrice album after Vheissu. Wow. So many fantastic songs. And I could see it becoming my favorite after a few more spins.

I actually thought you were going to be disappointed with this one after your disappointment in Air/Earth. Color me surprised but pleased!

Yeah man I had your comment in mind as I started listening so maybe it helped to temper my expectations. Whatever it is, it worked! Great album. The Weight is a definite highlight.

Vheissu and this are their two best yea. If Air and Water were one album it would be in the top 3.

I like to look at the Alchemys individually instead of the combos they released them in.
So, according to my ratings: Artist = Water > Illusion = Vheissu = Air = Beggars
For a top 3, I would probably put this up there with Artist and Water. It's a tough choice tho.

I liked this album the first time I listened, but after five listens, this is astoundingly good. Nearly Vheissu level. Could even become my fav Thrice album. It’s a hell of a grower. Just have Major Minor, To be Everywhere and Palms to go and I am caught up.
Next is Brand New. Had never listened to them but ordered all of their albums based on all the acclaim. Also got BS and untitled from MWY.

Ahhh so exciting to hear all that for the first time! Don't expect Brand New to hit you until Devil and God though - their early work has not aged well

Johnny, I’m actually gonna start with The Devil and God, then go Daisy and Sci Fi. Then I’ll check out Deja Entendu. Planning on just skipping the first one but maybe I’ll give it a spin at the end.

Will do man! Been dropping tons of loot on new music haha. So worth it though. MWY is gonna be up next after Brand New.
Gonna have to take a Thrice break on Friday-? To jam the new Chevelle though.

Nice but jam La Gargola instead (;
And beware the lyrics of Devil And God aren’t for the faint of heart and are quite harrowing, even morbid at times. So wonderfully written though.

Oh man, I’ve been listening to Chevelle for years. Huge fan. La Gargola is one of my favs — Sci Fi is my favorite though. I’ve heard a few of the songs on this one — Glimpse of the Con, Leto’s Headache, Sleepwalking elite — and they’re fantastic. Just as good as an A side. So I have high hopes for this.
Morbid and harrowing sounds good to me. I tend to gravitate toward dark music/movies. I just find it more interesting in general.

I love Chevelle too I’ve been listening for years as well, but their new album was so underwhelming.
I’m the same way with movies and music. Devil And God takes it to the next level. It’s a rabbit hole of loneliness, death, lost of faith and existentialism lol

Ahh ok got ya brother. No, but I’m referring to 12 Bloody Spies, the album of b sides they have coming out on Friday.
Totally agree on The North Corridor though! Very disappointing from them considering how consistent they are. It wasn’t bad, just pretty one note and lacking in the melody they usually have.
Re devil and god — can’t wait man! Sounds right up my alley.

honestly surprised this site likes North Corridor as much as it does, it's really bland imo

Yeah I mean, it’s decent. I’d give it a 3.5. But it’s disappointingly one note for Chevelle. My second least fav album of theirs.
12 bloody spies is gonna be great though, and just as good as a new album. Chevelle’s b sides are always solid as hell. And knowing Chevelle, they’re taking the TNC criticisms to heart and they’ll make good on it with the next album.
