Pretty cool cd, got it at best buy when it was like 8 :p
Same here. I hadn't actually heard "The Red" yet and bought it anyway. Same thing with Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory. I like this album. Probably my favorite nu-metal act. Pete's voice is great. I prefer it to Maynards because it just seems a little more edgey.
| | |
You need to chill the fukc out, Chevelle fanboy. Godsmack's guitar work sounds nothing like AIC's, but they are still AIC ripoffs. Why? Because of the VOCALS.
No.
Just like Chevelle does not rip off Tool with a similar vocal style, Godsmack does not rip off AIC with a similar vocal style.

Yeah, they do. Don't get me wrong, I like Godsmack and I think Chevelle is decent. But they are not original. In any way. And since both Tool and AIC have unique guitar work, and Chevelle and Godsmack do not, that makes them generic bland rip-offs. Which doesn't mean their music is bad, but if you're looking for something original, look elsewhere.
| | | Original isn't a word anymore
| | | this cd is good, I just got the new one, This type of thinking could do us in.
It is alright, I am a bit disapointed.

Everyone is influenced by someone else. Every band's sound contains part of, or elements of, another's, somewhere down the road. Pete emulates Maynard's singing style, and Sully emulates Layne's. So what? They are not 'generic bland rip-offs' simply because they sing like a certain person. About the only person who fits that category is Scott Stapp for sounding pretty much exactly like Eddie Vedder. Now that is an example of a bland, generic rip off.
Honestly. By your logic, every band that exists is a ripoff of someone else. And in that case, you'd be right. One band per genre gets to be 'original', while the rest are all just a bunch of talentless nobodies copying someone else's style, as opposed to emulating.

Thanks, I try :thumb:
... I'm going to download "Wonder What's Next" and "This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In)" off the network tonight to see if they are buy-worthy... I've only heard the singles from WWN and three songs from TToT ("Still Running" [from 'The Punisher'], "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)," and "The Clincher (from Madden, as was stated earlier)."
WWN is definetly buy worthy. The singles don't do it justice, except maybe "Closure".
TToT...well, I don't regret buying it, but it has a lot of lower-key tracks that some people may not like. It's still a good album, and I like how the basswork has expanded a little, and so have Joe's backing vocals...but there are more strong tracks on WWN than TToT IMO. The strong tracks on TToT, however, are quite strong.
| | | Chevelle are a quality band, but im not too keen on the new stuff
| | | I love your review style, Joz.
Point #1 is really underrated, and dismissed by those who know the band through their mediocre radio hits. The band's debut sounds like early Fugazi with MJK singing.. it's got a real indie feel to it, thanks to Steve Albini's cool production.
