Ahh I love this. The Best of Times might be my favorite song of 09.

Solid work as usual Willie. I always enjoy your reviews. I'm not too keen on DT, although i do really like Scenes from a Memory

Two of their worst? Really? Damn, I don't think I've ever heard that from a DT fan before.
I'm not so much a DT fan as I am a fan of particular moments in their career.

Good review. I completely lost interest in Dream Theater several years ago. Will probably never hear this.

Been meaning to listen to this, but Systematic Chaos totally turned me off to hearing anything else from DT.

Gets my vote for best album cover of the year so far.
Then maybe Silversun Pickups for some reason.

Killer Record!
Best since the Kevin Moore period.
TCOT is my favorite.
The end brought tears to me.
So did The Best Of Times.
AROP was probably the worst way to judge or represent this record as the first single.

this didn't sound that good after the first few listens, so I guess I'm going to have to give this another go soon

Better than Systematic Chaos

I suppose this would be a good place to start with Dream Theater? Or no?

I started here with them, but I heard other songs before I listened to this.

Images and Words was my first DT album, and its always been my favorite. Maybe you should start with that.

Wow, that's an oldie, but seems like a really good bet.
iTunes will be scoured before long.

It's old, but its pretty much the definitive prog metal release.
It's not as heavy as their newer stuff though.

I'm not a complete metalhead, so that's not too much of a problem, so long as it rocks my socks.

I really like your non-track reviews. Their really fun/interesting to read to read the depth of it-so ya awesome review Willie.
You hit it dead on and I basically agree with you on everything. I'm kinda shocked theres actually a Staff member who would like an album like this. Also for real why doesn't John Myung play more solos....I always found his bass tricks to be really awesome...or maybe thats just cause Rudess/Petrucci hog everything and it gets a little tired some after a while.
oops did I just say that?

did I ever mention Jordan Rudess is a close family friend of my aunt and cousins?
my cousin, who is a prolific guitarist has actually jammed with both Rudess and Petrucci.
fun to brag about lol.

Last sentence of the review wasnt necessary. Other than that, good but polished. Album rules. Owns Systematic Chaos and might own Octavarium next.

Good review, but not enough detail on what the album itself sounds like.
I love this album though. Definitely one of my favorites in their whole discography. All around some of the band's best work yet.
