I think this might be love at first ‘sight’. Legitimately brilliant album.

Yeah definitely. I enjoyed the whole thing, but that one-two punch certainly had my attention immediately. Whoever did the production deserves a medal, the sound on this is perfect. Clear enough to enjoy the creative instrumentation, but not even close to being overly polished. Simultaneously vibrant and atmospheric.

Velvet Waltz is outstanding. I went straight back in for another dose of this, something that rarely happens with me.

What are some albums that are influenced by this? The only one I can name off the top of my head is Leaves Turn Inside You. But that's kind of cheating because Phil Ek produced that one as well.

Every emo band I'd say

Also modest mouse and them are highly influential for the indie / alt rock scene

Modest mouse and Bts certainly influenced each other. But from this album specifically?

I've noticed some elements of Built to Spill's music in MM, but they were already present in the previous album.

Hurt a fly live always gets nuts when that freakout at the end hits. Especially when they have 3 guitars.

Love that part, in fact it might be my favourite song here... maybe Velvet Waltz though?

Shiny new rating.

This reminded me of Slint, which is to say it bored the hell out of me.

Bad taste then I imagine. This doesn’t remind me of Slint, for the record... but damn does Slint rule.
