While I wouldn't use the word "perfect" DavID, I thought 'War All The Time' was a bridging album and it does do a solid job of doing that... But nothing more...

Pig's dick. It is an amalgamation of everything that is enjoyable about this band. Every other record, to me, feels way too lopsided to be anything more than okay.

As for Thursday not having anything to prove now, I disagree with that. Their last album (while I liked most of it) lost quite a few of their fans and I think they almost looked to summarize all of their past efforts into 1 here. And thinking on that level, they have done a great job.

Not really. Sure, it's a little darker. But there's no heart in this, there's nothing that makes me thing "Oh wow, this is amazing". To be honest, I doubt the band themselves feel like that anymore.

well, 'surely' was the wrong thing to say, but often not having anything to prove frees a band of giving a fuck about pandering to fans and critics and it can be the best thing everevrererer

Oh "redundant" my a$$. And stop mentioning pig parts while the swine flu is around.

I get what you say about WATT being an amalgamation, but it's trying to hit too many targets to be thoroughly impressive. Plus, one of the most enjoyable things about Thursday s passion & intensity (you only have to listen to 'You Were The Cancer' to hear that) and they are 2 ingredients predomiantly missing from 'WATT'.

I personally think there is more heart & amazing stuff on this new album. The guitar work in '...Mountain', everything about 'Cancer', their best slow track yet in '...Astray', while the opener is really growing on me.

Adam, I think they did have something to prove here, but in a sense they are established so the pressure wasn't exactly of the "succeed or die" kind.

Yeah but David almost seems to be implying good music only comes from people with something to prove.

Listening this now anyway, great so far, hope the slower tracks aren't too gay.

Ok, you are the impartial referee Adam. Please let us know what you think.

And when you get to 'Love Has Led Us Astray', let me know if you agree with my Joy Division comparison, as I haven't seen anyone else mention that anywhere.

Someone farts at the start of Time's Arrow?..

Strangely enough the first thing I thought when I saw the track listing was that track 10 sounded an awful lot like a twist on Love Will Tear Us Apart. If he sounds like Curtis on it too then that is strange indeed.

I can kind of see what you mean by it although I'm not sure if I'm making it fit. At points in the song he sounds like Nate Ruess though lol :S. When he sings "what you're doing to me" he sounds like Curtis but then straight after that he sounds like Ruess. Weird.

Someone farts? Gee, I knew there was some raw recording techniques used here, but that's beyond the joke! Haha.

Forgive my lack of knowledge here Adam, but who is Nate Ruess?

Ahh, I'm shocking with the names of lead singers of bands unless they are one of my favorites.

We shall see, Modric, Srna and Kranjcar will hold possession all day if they have too.

What... and play for a nil all draw? No, the Croats will be distracted by the sun shining off Bresciano's bald head and in the meantime Timmayyyy will run riot.

this is actually a very good album. the opening track is a PERFECT beginning. i went in with fairly low expectations, but this is good stuff. i like how they take some chances with the music. many times it doesn't work, but when it does it's stunning.

Yeah, except the Thursday song doesn't suck. I hate Nate Ruess for that stupid song, lol.

Like you ScorpionStan, my expectations were so-so & I was very pleased with the results. The chances they take are predominantly flow-on effects from their previous LP, but you could definitely make a case that the strike rate of hits compared to misses is better here.

As for the opener, it is yet another song that is really growing on me from this album. I sort of overlooked it initially because I preferred (& probably still prefer) the 2 tracks that follow it, but it really opens the album well. And as another reviewer stated, that line of "Can you feel a pulse? It's been stopped for so long... Let's re-start it!" is great.

NotInTheFace, I presume you're NOT saying The Joy Division song sucks?

@ Davey
no not really, post hardcore really isn't my thing. It must be an excellent album to impress me and that means that regarding post hardcore it should be about 4.5-5 haha.

Oh yeah, Davey, I read your review for War All The Time...while I agree with you that Between Rupture and Rapture, Asleep In The Chapel and M. Shepard are fairly weak and boring songs, the rest of the record more than makes up for it. Particularly the title track, which is easily the best song they've ever written (followed by You Were The Cancer).

And to everyone who wtfed my earlier comment, well, just as you can't comprehend why I dislike them, I can't comprehend why you like them. Makes me the odd one out, and possibly the retard, I know, but like I said, fuck it.
