This album was a huge surprise to me, I thought it was going to be terrible, but it's probably my favorite album of the year thus far. But I'm sure BTBAM will beat this by a longshot.

Thanks for the comments everyone. This is doubling as a uni assignment (which is why it's longer than what I usually write) and I've read over it a lot more than usual...I'm pretty sick of it at this point so it's nice to get positive comments.

I'm gay for Isis, so this is about a 4, maybe a 4.5 on a really good day.

If I wasn't such a fanboy, though, I'd probably knock this down by a bit.

It's good to see that someone on staff who doesn't seem to completely dislike isis reviewed this (with a fantastic review, too).

Apart from "Ghost Key and Stone" to "Wake a Serpent", I somehow get the feel that this album was overall just a lazy effort. I mean the vocal melodies and even the screaming patterns are all constant rehashes from previous albums..

ya.. they are just playing chill repetitive riffs over and over and then randomly exploding a heavy riff.

It literally sounds the same on every single song. Ya his growl is badass but mix up the "RAHHHH..........RAHHH RAHHH (jam for a sec) RAHHHH..........RAHHH RAHHH formula" ....u guys know what im talking about ;-)





Granted this album isnt terrible, its just that if this was honestly the first ISIS album i listened to I wouldnt like them. Im a huge fan boy but i have to give it a 3...Its just nothing new.. Its hard to argue against the fact tha the band has gotten LESS creative since oceanic/panopticon/absence of truth (other than the drumming)...

Pretty good review for a pretty good album. It's tough for me to sit through a whole atmospheric sludge album, but I love the songs individually. I'll need to hear this a little more, but I unfortunately lost my iPod/had it stolen.
