"Music is an art form whose medium is sound." - good 'ol wikipedia
This definition is perhaps the most accurate definition of what "music" is. The problem I have with this review is that it's closed minded. Music is an ART. Let's take visual art, for example. Does every painting have a subject like a tree or a lake? No. There's millions upon millions of abstract art pieces, still highly regarded as beautiful. The beauty of any art form is the freedom to express it in new, different, and innovative ways.
This review is kind of like saying that an abstract painter's works have no correlation with any previous works in the visual genre, nor do they relate to any other piece in the gallery, even though they show his amazing skill. Then, it would continue to say that this is valid reason to burn the paintings to ash. Does that make sense?
Is it really right to say an album is garbage because it isn't like traditional western harmony? There's nothing wrong with having the opinion that the music is difficult to listen to because it is definitely out of the ordinary, but to disregard the talent of these musicians and trash the album for the sheer fact that they don't sound like "normal music" is hardly reasonable.
