The Last Baron is my choice when I need a quick visit to this album.

CDP is the only time I've wanted my money back for a Mastodon album. no wonder those songs didn't make the LP.

I think The Hunter is the only time I've wanted my money back for a Mastodon album. I have it at a 3, but a really tenuous 3 that could fall to a 2.5 at any moment tbh

one of those bands like Gojira that just fell off for me. Remission and Leviathan were so amazing, Blood Mountain started to feel a bit tiring, and everything after is just blah. A big problem for me has to be their cleans. The vocals are just obnoxious and never sound good, at least the harsh yells were fine. If you're gonna transition to cleans all the time, at least have a vocalist that can sing.

Brann Dailor definitely has the best cleans, but I feel he gets underutilized when it comes to lead parts unfortunately

Anciients has all the ingredients for me to like them, but probably that's why I don't, they offer me nothing new. If I had discovered them along with Mastodon and Opeth and whatnot, then maybe I had a different opinion.

Brann has a great voice. Brent has such a characteristic voice, inimitable.

despite my harsh comments i think mastodon has to be one of the bands i've seen live the most, along with opeth

I've seen them only once, unfortunately, in 2011 in Sonisphere with Maiden headliners. Didn't know them at the time, had much fun, but the sound was bad. They were still figuring out things for their live performances, many things were not great and the equipment had its flaws. But I'd really like to see them live now.

it's been a while, i saw them mostly during the blood mountain days. they were solid every time i saw them, they're great musicians no doubt.

yea i think you could make a serious argument for blood & thunder being the premier metal album of the full 00's decade

I once read that Burst's ''Lazarus Bird'' is a culmination of the '00s and I thought to myself, welp, someone is exaggerating, but as years go by, I feel like the author of that article might have been right.
