Never had a problem with this album. Then again, I am not a thrash fan, so why should I?

"Holier Than Thou is so fucking heavy"

This album is probably my all-time favorite guilty pleasure. I can see why some hate it, but I still feel it is a high end record with classic songs and the classic Metallica. Holier than Thou is my favorite jam on this m/

Most of the people that hate it are just purist metalheads who only listen black or death metal, most of the rock and metal fans I've met masturbate with this album. Specially with wherever I may roam, through never, holier than thou and the unforgiven

Where's the love for The God That Failed? Most underrated Metallica track.

I'll second that notion. Probably alongside "The Call of Ktulu", and the dark horse candidate, "The Outlaw Torn. "

this is pretty much my view on it
never, ever understood why people were so dumb about this album but I guess if you're a slave to thrash it makes sense

It is not that the album is not thrash enough it is because it is mostly boring and uninspired.

Escape isn't a good song at all.

Well, most of the purist metalheads who only listened thrash, black or death considered this during the early 90s as a fuckin sellout album , the music was more simple compared to their other 4 efforts and besides the existance of certain ballads and a arena rock component proper of acts like guns and roses, also the exposure on MTV didn't help either

"Escape"

Hmm. Escape is probably the weakest worst song they wrote in the first 5 albums, IMO. To each their own. The chorus is catchy though.

Everything Escape does was done 10 times better by many hair metal bands, bands that most people here who are claiming Escape is a good song would probably hate on.

Oh, that song doesn't have contribution from Cliff...that makes sense.

Sup Jamie - long time no see brother. Don't remember you being Contributing Reviewer; if it was recent congrats!

All the Ratts, Dokkens, etc etc had some great jams in the day agreed. Some unwarranted hate.

Sup KJ, good to see you around. It wasn't recent but thanks all the same!

And yeah definitely, and seeing people praising songs like Escape by non-hair metal bands really emphasises that point about hair metal getting unwarranted hate for me.

100% agreed. Even a band like Winger: very hated and often laughed at, yet some great songs and some respectable instrumentation by guys like Reb Beach.
